Motherhood:These are the Days!

On Mother's Day this past weekend I was spoiled by my sweet family. They made me breakfast and dinner and time to just relax in bed. It was so nice! I loved having time to just do nothing and to reflect on this thing we call Motherhood. My conclusion was that these are the best days! These days are busy, exhausting, joyful, educational, and full of love.
Jeffrey R. Holland said, "Do the best you can through these years, but whatever you do, cherish that role that is so uniquely yours and for which heaven itself sends angels to watch over you and your little ones."
My New Year's Resolution this year is to drop everything and play with my littles, even if the kitchen looks like it exploded and nobody has any clean socks. I'm doing my best to not let it all just pass me by and take the time to enjoy my cute babies. Amidst the hustle of school, homework, piano, gymnastics, dinners, laundry, play time, baths and reading books, our days are jam packed.

The days feel fast because of how busy we are. I've been trying to take the time to slow down and just talk to the kids, or listen to their stories. I've noticed it makes them feel important and helps us feel close. One night after we all shared our favorite thing that happened that day, little Brandon said, "Mommy, I love talking with you. It's fun! Can we talk every night?" My heart just melted!

I'm far from being a perfect mom! I struggle to get up in the morning, I loose my patience when we are trying to get out the door, I take forever to set up playdates, I get too caught up with my To-Do List, and I am the absolute worst at getting all of the socks paired up and then distributed into everyone's sock drawers. And most of all i'm hard on myself for things I wish I was better at. But as parents there is definitely a learning curve and I am so grateful for the resilient, forgiving and loving hearts of my little ones. I think it's important to not be too hard on ourselves and to cheer ourselves on for the awesome things we do for our kids.

So here is my list of positives...
1-I've been taking the kids on bike rides lately and it's always feel like a fun adventure.
2-I'm good at getting their imaginative and creative juices flowing and satisfied with coloring, painting and crafts.
3-I've been doing great at shuttling them to and fro from school, gymnastics, soccer and playdates.
4-We read scriptures every night before bed.
5-I'm good at telling them how much I love them, what makes them special, and why i'm proud of them.

I know I will continue to make mistakes and I will also continue to correct and grow from those mistakes. I love my babes so much and will do my best to love and teach them. But I also feel like they teach me! I saw this quote somewhere that says "While we try to teach our children about life, they teach us what life is all about." It's so true! I feel like I learn from their sweet innocent hearts and they help keep what's important in perspective. I'm grateful everyday that I have been entrusted with these beautiful spirits and my heart feels so full because I get to call them mine!
Sophie is turning 7 in just a couple of weeks... I seriously don't know how she has gotten so big. She is the sweetest little motherly girl who always helps with her brothers. Sophie loves tumbling, books and has quite the sense of humor. She also loves school and has become quite the social butterfly. Sophie is the best big sister and my best little friend. We loved being all matchy-matchy for Mother's Day!
Me: Top & Skirt From JCrew, Sophie: Dress is JCrew and shoes are Old Navy Old.

Brandon is 4 and about to finish his first year of preschool. He adores his sister and loves Ninja Turtles, legos and golfing with his daddy.  He has loved being a big brother to baby Davis and teaching him how to play "boy" things like cars. Brandon is so tender and sweet. He also loves snuggling to read a good book and always looks forward to treats and dessert.
Davis is growing so fast. He refused to take a bottle for so long; I'm happy to finally announce that at 16 months old, he is finally weaned and loving his baba! Hallelujah! I love nursing and the special time we spend together while doing so. I think it was equally as hard for me to let go as much as it was for him. But It was time and what was best. Davis is a sponge for words and says new words everyday. Today he surprised us with cookie and mine. He loves the song Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and sings it all day in his little baby way of speaking. He loves cars and tagging along with his brother and sister. Davis is a bit of a serious personality but loves to get a laugh out of you by surprising you with peek-a-boo and poking your nose. Just like his big brother, Davis also loves treats.
So yes... These are the days! Good days, hard days, silly, exhausting, and fun days. I wouldn't trade them for the world!
